Augustine has been credited with saying, “In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all things charity.” At Norris Ferry we are unified around the essential beliefs of Christian orthodoxy while enjoying a loving diversity in all other non-essential beliefs. The following beliefs represent the essential beliefs around which we are unified. Anyone pursuing membership and baptism at Norris Ferry Church must agree with these beliefs.
- the Scriptures are true, authoritative and sufficient.
there is only one true God, Creator of heaven and earth, who eternally exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
all things exist for the glory of God.
all humanity—Christ excluded—is sinful.
the deserved penalty for sin is physical and spiritual death.
Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, was born of a virgin and is both fully God and fully human.
Jesus Christ died as the sacrificial substitute to pay the penalty for sin.
Jesus Christ physically rose from the dead, ascended into heaven and will one day physically return.
there will be a future physical resurrection of the dead. Only those who turn from sin and to Jesus in faith and repentance will be raised to eternal reward. Those who do not turn from sin and to Jesus will be raised to eternal punishment.
only through faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ and repentance from sin can one be reconciled to God and experience true life and joy.
Our mission is to glorify God by loving Christ, Christians, Neighbors, and Nations.
We exist as individuals and as a church for God's glory. When we come together as the church we are to be a visible representation of the glory of God. It is our mission to glorify God in four loving relationships.
All of life begins with a loving relationship with God Himself, Jesus Christ. When we see the glory of God in Christ we can only respond in worshipful love. Christ becomes our greatest love and only then does life have purpose and fulfillment. Our mission is to be continually growing in love with Christ by knowing Him as He is revealed in His Word.
Having been captivated by the love of Christ we are transformed from loving only self to loving others. The love of Christ pours out of us into our Christian brothers and sisters as we share and care for each other’s physical and spiritual wellbeing.
Living in loving relationship with Christ is so wonderful we are compelled to share His love with our neighbors and with everyone with whom we have a relationship. We seek to invest in others and to use any influence we have to help others discover the love of Christ for the glory of God.
God loves the people of every tongue and tribe and God deserves to be loved and worshiped in every tongue and tribe. It is our mission to take the love of Christ to every nation by praying and planting indigenous churches.
We believe that God is glorified only when the love is produced by God’s Spirit. When a person receives Jesus Christ with genuine faith, that person receives the Spirit of God and is transformed into a person of true love. Only by the Spirit of God is a person able to glorify God by loving Christ, Christians, Neighbors, and Nations.
Our values are important because they drive everything we do. Please take a moment to understand our core values.
We value God’s glory above all; therefore, our motive is to glorify God in all things.
We value love above legalistic religion; therefore, our mission is to Glorify God by loving Christ, Christians, Neighbors, Nations.
We value God's Word above cultural relevance; therefore, our measure of ministry is faithfulness to God’s Word.
We value The Spirit’s power over pragmatism; therefore, our means of ministry is to teach God’s Word and to pray for it’s application by God’s Spirit.
We value God's people over programs; therefore, our method of ministry is to gather God's people around the prayerful ministry of God's Word.
