Teacher: Jeff Manning
Purpose: This class reads the twelve so-called Minor Prophets as one book: a single scroll that speaks the LORD’s own case against his people and the nations, and in the same breath discloses the abundant, generous heart of God. Building on what the church already knows of Israel’s kings and the classical prophetic office, we will spend seven weeks tracing the theology of the Twelve.
Along the way, we will name the false stories our culture tells about money, tribe, security, and belonging, and set the Twelve’s story beside them. Participants will leave able to state a theology of the Book of the Twelve in their own words, recognize the rival stories competing for their trust, and take one concrete step of generosity within our church.
Overview: This Core Class belongs to our Community Life classes on Christian Scripture, forming disciples in the Rule of the Word by teaching the whole canon as one continuous story. It is the third of three classes on the Prophets, following our classes on the Former Prophets and the Major Prophets.
